NATIONAL COUNCIL OF THE REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA
Although in the past Slovenians on numerous occasions experienced bicameral and multicameral representative bodies, the National Council does not represent a successor of such representative bodies, but is instead an entirely new representative body that was formed with the adoption of the Constitution in 1991. The National Council is the upper chamber of the Slovenian Parliament, whose members represent local and functional interests. It consists of 22 representatives of local interests and 18 representatives of functional interests; four representatives of employers, four representatives of employees, four representatives of farmers, craftsmen and independent vocations, as well as six representatives of non-commercial activities.
