NATIONAL COUNCIL OF THE REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA
Slovenians have in the past experienced bicameral and multicameral representative bodies on numerous occasions, however, the National Council does not represent a successor of such representative bodies. Instead, it is an entirely new representative body that was formed with the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia in 1991. The National Council is the upper chamber of the Slovenian Parliament whose members represent local and functional interests. The National Council consists of 22 representatives of local interests and 18 representatives of functional interests; the latter include four representatives of employers, four representatives of employees, four representatives of farmers, crafts and trades, and independent professions, and six representatives of non-commercial fields.
